YANGON, July 16 (Xinhua) -- A cargo vessel laden with charcoal has capsized in the Chindwin River in Myanmar's Sagaing region with no casualties confirmed, according to the Sagaing Region Marine Administration Department Tuesday.
The cargo vessel loaded with over 1,750 tons of charcoal from a private company met with the tragedy near Shwekyin village in Kalewa township of the region Monday.
When the vessel came near Zeedauk village, its paddle wheel got blocked by floating timber, causing loss of control.
The vessel capsized after the hull sprang a leak.
The authorities carried out rescue operation in the Chindwin River after the incident.
According to the department, it had issued a whirlpool warning to vessels plying in the river last month.
