MAHMOUD RAQI, Afghanistan, June 22 (Xinhua) -- A total of 12 militants and two security personnel have been confirmed dead as clash erupted in Tagab district of Afghanistan's eastern Kapisa province, provincial police spokesman Abdul Shaqaeq Shurash said Saturday.
A group of Taliban militants, according to the official, launched offensives on Shapigali and Nawa areas of Tagab district late Thursday night and police returned fire, triggering heavy fighting which lasted until Friday afternoon and the militants fled away after leaving 12 bodies behind.
Two security personnel had been killed and 10 others including five militants and five security personnel sustained injuries, the official added, saying cleanup operation is underway to utterly wipe out the militants.
Taliban militants have not commented.
