HANOI, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Police of Vietnam's Hai Phong city said on Tuesday that they have detected an inter-provincial drug trafficking ring, detaining three local men who transported synthetic drugs from northern Hoa Binh province to the city.
Early this month in Hai Phong, the municipal police caught red-handed a 34-year-old man from Hoa Binh transporting nearly 3.2 kg of heroin and roughly 1 kg of methamphetamine, and then arrested two men aged 39 and 53, both from the city, confiscating 11 mobile phones, 50 bullets and some other objects.
According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death.
Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
