JAKARTA, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- An e-sport championship is scheduled to be held for the first time in Indonesia next month as an effort to develope the sport in the country, concerned officials said here on Friday.
The event is to be held at the Jakarta International Expo compound in the capital from March 29 to 31, said Nick Vanzetti, senior vice president of Electronic Sport League (ESL) Asia-Pacific and Japan.
"The championship is parts of our effort to promote e-sport to the highest level in Indonesia," he said, adding the event offers a total of 150,000 U.S. dollars in prize.
"As e-sport has currently developed in the world, accordingly we want e-sport in Indonesia can follow the trend," he said.
Among the participants are those from Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippine, Malaysia and Singapore.
For the forthcoming SEA Games in the Philippine at the end of this year, Indonesian e-sports team targets for two gold medal.
