SKOPJE, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Macedonian movie "God exists, her name is Petrunija" was selected to compete in the Berlinale 2019 International Film Festival to be held in February, the movie's producer, Labina Mitevska, said at a press conference here on Thursday.
Mitevska, who also stars in the film, said that the film will have its premiere in Berlin on Feb. 10.
"We have walked down the red carpet in Venice exactly 25 years ago. We should all be very proud and I hope it will open the doors for Macedonian cinema," said Mitevska.
The Macedonian Film Agency's Director, Gorjan Tozija, said that the film's budget was 1.4 million euros (1.61 million U.S. dollars). The agency chipped in with 500,000 euros (575,000 U.S. dollars).
The film was shot in February and March last year in Stip, Macedonia, and post-production was done in France, Belgium and Slovenia.
The film tells the story of Petrunija, played by Zorica Nuseva, a young unemployed woman who decides to compete to catch a cross during a religious event on Epiphany Day. All kinds of problems emerge once she catches the cross only because she is a woman.
