VIENNA, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Austrian tourism industry saw its strongest summer season in 25 years, with increases in both visitor numbers and overnight stays at hotels and guest houses, Statistics Austria revealed on Wednesday
The number of tourists visiting Austria between the summer season months of May and October increased 3.1 percent compared to 2017, to reach almost 25 million in total.
Overnight stays increased 2.3 percent to reach almost 77 million, a sum not seen since the 77.4 million overnight stays recorded in 1992.
Two-thirds of the visitors were from foreign countries. German nationals once again proved the strongest source country of tourists, making up 28.57 million overnight stays, 53 percent of the total from foreign visitors.
Seen from the beginning of the year, 133.2 million overnight stays have been recorded up the end of October, which marks a 3.2 percent increase over 2017, the statistics office said.
