KUNMING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- A senior Party official called for efforts to enhance solidarity among ethnic groups and harmony in the religious circle during an inspection to southwest China's Yunnan Province from Monday to Thursday.
Visiting the provincial capital Kunming, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, You Quan, head of the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, underscored the efforts to consolidate a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and exchanges among different ethnic groups.
Stressing the importance of poverty alleviation in areas inhabited by ethnic minority groups, You instructed local governments and people to make full use of preferential policies and develop industries that suit local conditions.
Meeting Tibetan Buddhist religious leaders, You urged them to carry on the patriotic tradition, work for the unity of the nation and solidarity among ethnic groups, and keep their religion away from overseas influence.
